Mothers' Union December 2017

On Tuesday, December 19th, we were joined by members of the Ladies' Fellowship and Corris MU at St. Peter's for our annual Carol Service, which had been prepared by Mrs. Sandra Wheeler. The service was led by Rev. Canon Kathleen, and the organist was Mrs. Margaret Hughes.

After the service, 21 members and friends proceeded to the Riverside Hotel, Pennal, for a delicious Christmas Lunch. Following Grace by the Rev. Kathleen, Enrolling Member, Mrs. Joyce Price welcomed everyone, particularly Sandra, who is recovering from an operation. Condolences were expressed to Mrs. Dorothy Edwards on the death of her husband, Lewis. Joyce then thanked Sandra for preparing the service, Rev. Kathleen for leading it, Margaret(H) for accompanying the carols, and Margaret(S) for arranging the lunch. She also wished Kathleen well in her retirement, and offered our best wishes to Rev. Roland Barnes on his move to a new ministry in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Four members attended the Advent Carol Service in Bangor Cathedral. During the service, 97-yr-old Mrs. Barbara Sowood was presented with flowers and a long service certificate for her 70yrs membership of M.U. Mrs.Sowood wrote many one- act plays containing pertinent messages for M.U, which we still perform occasionally at our meetings.

Mrs. Alice Hughes proposed the vote of thanks to the staff of the Riverside Hotel for an excellent meal, and the raffle was then drawn.

Mrs. Price wished everyone a Happy Christmas, and gave advance notice of a Coffee and Pancake morning to be held on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 13th in the Mezzanine Room. Offers of help would be greatly appreciated.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, January 18th at 2.00pm in church, when Rev. Kathleen will speak about her trip to Uganda. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Margaret Hughes.
