Walking with Clive
Walking with Clive, or St. Peter's Plodders (as it is commonly known) is a great way to stay fit and socialise with others in the community.
Whenever possible we will include the next route in plenty of time for you get your boots polished.
Clive gives details of the route including the length so that you know if it's a quite stroll, and energetic ramble, or full out mountain climbing.
The photographs are from the previous months walk.
Oh, did we forget to mention, there's often chips at the end of the walk!!!
The Rhiwlwyfan Loop. (4.5 miles)
Saturday 8th February.
Meeting at St Peter’s Church at 9:30 am the walk will proceed up Maengwyn St and on towards Forge, bearing right in Forge onto the Uwchygarreg road. In about half a mile we again bear right onto a forestry track which climbs steadily up to Rhiwlwyfan farm. From here there are many excellent views of the valleys below. The first valley is Dyffryn Dulas, which leads towards Aberhosan with Montgomeryshire’s highest mountain - Foel Fadian - in the background. The next valley is Cwm Ceniarth with its varied farmland and woods. The walk from now on is a gentle incline down the tarmac road exiting on the mail road just south of Forge and back to town. We shall be going for refreshments on our return, so sandwiches are optional.
Our January walk was for once, favoured with good weather. With our biggest group to date (13) the walk proceeded along part of the Welsh Coastal Path before returning to Dolgellau and up onto the western flank of the Cergennin Lakes. The views down to Dolgellau itself and across to the Mawddach Estuary were made all the better by the winter sun. The pictures below show evidence of the rainfall in this area with the fast flowing waterfall. Once again in the picture at the bottom we seem to have gained an extra member of the group, either that or Jocelyn has decided to carry a horse’s head with her on the walk!! I’m going have to watch our walker’s carefully from now on, as I’m not sure if one of them is arranging for this horse to appear on our walks. (see previous walk pictures)
Circular Walk Dolgellau (4.5 Miles)
Saturday 11th January.
Starting from the Marian Car Park in town we will follow the river out towards Penmaenpool then turn to enter Dolgellau from the West then past the Catholic Church up onto the Fronolau Road.
Meet at St Peter’s Church 09:30 hrs (Lifts available) once again we shall repair to a local cafe for sustenance once walk finished. (Sandwiches optional)
The December walk was once again accompanied by inclement weather, not that it deterred our merry band of walkers. You could say the walk was wind assisted especially in exposed places coming off the sea. As you can see we seem to attract wildlife!!
